Mad Ritual had the pleasure of co-hosting a Mother’s Day Pop-Up Shop at Eurolux and we recently sat down to chat with proprietor Lauren Brigante.

Tell us a little bit about your background:

I love my craft and hope it shows. I began working at Eurolux as an assistant in 2004, which was early in my career as a hair stylist. When the original owner was ready to retire, I purchased the business in 2012. My dad also had his own business, so we discussed the opportunity and what I should do. But I honestly had no idea what I was getting into… which was probably for the best! I was pregnant at the time and just jumped into it, figuring things out along the way. Owning a business is hard work, but can also be very rewarding.

What’s In a Name: Why Eurolux?

Eurolux was founded by a Ukrainian woman in 2003. The original business slogan was “Eurolux, where European luxury meets modern America”.

Who did you think your target market would be vs. who your customer base has ended up being?

I have an eclectic group of lifelong friends and our clientele is the same. We offer hair services, natural nails, massages, reflexology, facials, Botox, microblading, full body waxing, eyelash extensions, ear candling, infrared sauna, reiki massage, coffee readings, chromotherapy and meditation classes with sound healing, so there is literally something for everyone at Eurolux.

How has the business evolved over time?

Eurolux has added more holistic services over time with wellness in mind, our infrared sauna being the most popular. Post covid there has been a rise in awareness of the importance of self-care and the holistic approach to healing and we have really tapped into that market. We also added a retail space and sell everything from sage to crystals to Turkish lamps to jewelry to Mad Ritual products.

What do you enjoy most about your career?

I love beautiful things and people and I am surrounded by them all day.

What is the hardest part of your job/running a business?

There are many moving parts to running a business and then add two kids to that. Balance is sometimes difficult. However, the work environment at Eurolux is incredibly comfortable, so being there for long hours isn’t bad at all. Both of my children were raised inside my business and my staff have all pitched in with them. It’s like a family.

Let's talk COVID.

Biggest point of frustration with how things were handled within the beauty industry?

Personal grooming, wellness and self-care is – and always should have been – considered essential. Eurolux is a large salon and we have always made sanitation our priority. We could have easily worked safely instead of having to close.

Any positive outcome/carryover from shutdown?

I have more confidence in my business skills than ever before. I believe I could navigate any business climate and still make it work.

They say success isn’t a great teacher. What has failure taught you?

Failure is not a word I use very often because I usually have no concrete idea of a final outcome when I’m getting into something new. I just move forward on an idea and make adjustments where necessary. My planning phases are very short.

If money and resources were unlimited, what would you do?

I would just do more of what I am currently doing and have more fun doing it. If I took the risk out of my career it would feel like a game because I really enjoy what I do. Our staff works really well as a team and with unlimited resources we could create amazing things.

And last, but not least, what has your experience with Mad Ritual been like?

A few years ago, Kate gave me a tin to try. I put it on my kids bug bites. One day I woke up with my eye swollen shut and that relief rub was the only thing that worked. It works for everything!

Eurolux Salon and Day Spa now carries the full line of Mad Ritual bath bombs available in Bergamot + Orange + Lime, Eucalyptus + Peppermint, and Lavender + Frankincense blends.
